BHS Photo Contest, Jim Crosby Training, and more!

Good afternoon!

I hope you are managing to stay dry on this rather wet day.

Please be sure to include your pets in your hurricane preparations – food, water, any necessary medications, blankets, shelter, i.d. tags in case they go missing.

The 2015 Summer Fun Photo Contest deadline is fast approaching! Photo entries must be submitted by close of business day on Friday, September 4th. Please see the attached photo for locations to drop your entries off. Then, join us at the Nassau Yacht Club on Saturday September 12th at 6 p.m. to see all the amazing entries and to find out who won. There will be a cash bar and tickets will be available for a poolside BBQ after the awards are presented. Thank you to Mr. Photo and Bahamas Local for sponsoring this event.

And… an opportunity to win a beautiful Cardo painting, thanks to a supporter in Florida. Tickets are available at the BHS and the draw will be held at the Photo Contest Awards on September 12th. There are only 1,500 tickets, though, so be sure to buy yours early! Tickets are a book of 6 for $100, 3 for $50 or a single for $20.

For two weeks, Jim Crosby is back in town! There will be group dog training sessions offered on Saturday, August 29th and Sunday, August 30th (as well as the following weekend) at 5:30 p.m. at Goodman’s Bay or Sandyport (location will be decided depending on the response!). The $25 per dog fee is a donation to the BHS. Private sessions can be arranged by contacting Kim at berryislandgirl@gmail.com or 357-4318. This is a great opportunity to have a highly certified and expert canine behaviorist work with your dog(s). Jim has been hired as a consultant by many diverse associations, training groups in Italy, Scotland Yard, and numerous police departments in the US. His CV is available on request.

Don’t forget the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, September 16th at 6 p.m. at the shelter. All members are invited to attend (bring a friend; sign them up!). Be advised that only current members are eligible to vote. If you have any questions about your membership, please contact me.

Adoption Special! We have a large selection of beautiful cats and kittens available for adoption. To allow for the back-to-school busy-ness that we’re sure many of you are experiencing, our two-for-one cat & kitten adoption special has been extended to the end of September. Adopt one cat or kitten and take a companion home free! The adoption fee covers first shots and spaying/neutering. Check out some of our adoptees online at Facebook or come into the BHS during adoption hours to check them out. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Upcoming:

October 3rd & 4th – Green Earth Festival – noon to 8 p.m. – Venue to be announced – The BHS will be participating with a booth.

October 4th – The annual Blessing of the Animals Service at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, Lyford Cay. This is usually held at 4 p.m.

Thank you:

– to Amanda Meyers and her friends who fulfilled Amanda’s birthday wish of food for the shelter by donating over 1200 lbs of dog and cat food.
– to Bahamas Waste for always being there when we need them.
– to the 47 people/companies who have donated $1000 or more to the 100 People Challenge, and to the 14 others who also donated.
– to our members who continue to support us annually.
– to those families who have included the BHS in their time of bereavement by asking that donations be made to us in lieu of flowers.

Have a great day!
Linda
